    As a 58 year old sociology major I agree with your conclusions , however it seems to me that as long as we remain uncomfortable about speaking in an honest way our dialogue will never be consistent with the requirements for critical thinking to develope. We must accept the fact that dialogue is not going to be comfortable much of the time and it is the difficult dialogue demands we develope better skills of thinking. After all we do not need critical thinking skills until we perceive a problem with our current level of skill and that only occurs when we step outside our comfort zones.
