Raising Awareness About the Plight of Refugees

Today, communities celebrate World Refugee Day. Worldwide, communities hope to raise awareness about the plight of refugees.
In “Refugees”, Steve Loyal explains that refugees are people who escape their country of origin because of persecution or fear of persecution. After refugees flee to neighboring countries, the United Nations High Commission on Refugees interviews them and determines whether they meet the criteria for refugees. If the High Commissioner classifies them as refugees, then they are allowed to remain in the neighboring country, usually in refugee camps. Many refugees reside in refugee camps for long periods of time.
Coinciding with World Refugee Day, Medecins Sans Frontieres releases a statement on the Rohingya people. Many Rohingyas were persecuted by Burma’s military government. Over the past twenty years, about twenty-five thousand Rohingyas escaped Burma and settled in a makeshift refugee camp in Bangladesh. Since this makeshift refugee camp is not officially recognized by the High Commissioner, Bangladesh’s government does not welcome the refugees and encourages them to return to Burma. Medecins Sans Frontieres criticizes the forcible displacement of the Rohingyas, who are an extremely vulnerable group.

What an important step taken by Medicins Sans Frontieres to point out the cracks in refugee policies. People meeting Loyal’s definition of a refugee must exit beyond the boundaries of UN camps. Great work pointing out holes in policies and actions against the flawed policies.

PALESA YOU SHOULD NOT ONLY SPEND ONE HOUR WITH THEM OR ONLY SPEND YOUR TIME WITH THEM AT WORLD REFUGEE DAY. YOU SHOULD SHOW THEM THAT YOU REALLY CARE FOR THEM AND SPEND YOUR TIME WITH THEM EVERYDAY COZ THATS WHAT I DO TO KEEP THEM SMILING

I think what is done to refugees is totally unfair because like if we think back to the old times, our past leaders were also refugees so just because South Africa no longer has war-it doesn’t mean we should ignore other people who have come to our country so as to protect themselves. So let us treat them fairly and respect them. As the bible says that we must treat other people as we would like to be treated. Look at it like this what if war strikes here in our country????

Refugees are also human therefore they should also be treated as human we must not be impressed to judge or humiliate them because you won’t like it when its done to you so let’s love each other and care for each other because we are all one God’s image
All refugees are suppossed to be treated just like other human ..because you can’t just judge them without knowing the reason that made them move from there aare country
people that leave at refugees camp must treated equaly becouse they are human not animals

I think what we should know that without this refugees, we as people will suffer a lot especially the poor people bcoz this people sell cheap things which makes life better to live and survive…I love them a lot bcoz they are friendly and kind!!!!

Refugee day is abwt 2make ppl feel comfortable . Some refugees leave their homez bcoz of war some are being forced and wat i hate the most is a refugee woman being sexual abused.i say live strong refugee .thnkx

i think that as human beings we must never treat others like animals u will never know what caused them to leave as u can c they r now out of their home country. i dont understand why people can do such things to others
I don’t understand why all nobody sees these basic human rights as things that should go without saying. Everyone in this world should respect one another no matter ho they are or where they come from. Why is our world so twisted these days?
